The democratic party created the commercial to informs voters that Canseco plans on enacting a 23% sales tax if elected. The advertisement shows several average American talking about what this tax would mean to them in day-to-day life in terms of groceries and gas. It is stated that Canseco intends not only to raise taxes for the majority of Americans. The majority of American are mostly middle class citizens that will be affected. He also plans on decreasing taxes for the wealthy people this will benefit people that own their own business or have a higher income tax then most individuals.
In term of Social-Conflict theory. this advertisement portrays how the elite with are few rule the less affluent majority, the middle class citizens of this nation. An exorbitant tax can be imposed on the masses while the elite in power can cut taxes for themselves. The commercial is calling for the average American to rise up against the system and vote for Canseco’s opponent. It proposes that millionaires are out for themselves and the rest of society needs to be unified to stand up against them so the elite will have the power or control to run over the middle class.
