Criteria for the Proposing a Solution Essay

The purpose of the Proposing a Solution Essay is to

describe a problem vividly,
propose a solution,
argue that the solution is practical, feasible, cost-effective, and workable,
explain why this solution is better than other solutions

Use MLA Format

Set margins 1” (top/bottom left/right)

Double space

Set running head to 1/2 margin

Times New Roman 12

Do not write in 1st/2nd person

Title your work. Do not use the topic alone as your title.

You will choose 5 sources from the annotated bibliography to cite in the Propose a Solution Essay. Your sources for the essay must be varied. Therefore, you may not use database sources only for the paper.
Only use 2 block quotes. Block quotes may not extend longer than 8 lines.(See St. Martin’s Guide pages 704-06 for intext citations and block quotes.)

Do not cite quotes consecutively. Once you include a quote, you must explain it.

Works Cited information can found on pages 714-30 of the the St. Martin’s Guide textbook.

*Remember that there is a word count for every essay. This paper’s word count is at least 1000-1250.

*Papers that are submitted without a strong thesis fall into the weaker category. (C, D, or F)

*Papers that are submitted without a works cited will receive a failing grade.

*Papers that are submitted without concrete details from the research shall receive a

failing grade.

The Final Essay is not accepted as late work. Please submit your essay to Turnitin by the end of the test period.
