For seven long years, you have labored to ensure freedom. At various points in time you never thought this day would arrive. Survival has been a supreme effort. If you had not been so determined to forge a new existence you would never have tackled this mammoth undertaking in a strange “New World.” You are an indentured servant that has recently fulfilled indentureship and is plotting the next course of life action. You are planning what to do with the rest of your days. The question now remains where to call home.
Discuss life as an indentured servant. What were the most challenging as well as rewarding aspects of this distinctive arrangement? If you had to do it over again, would you? Explain. As you ponder the potential places that will be home, what do you see as the advantages and disadvantages of such patterns of existence as a plantation, a colonial city, a New England village or an isolated farming community. Which of these areas do you foresee as a future abode?
