One of a congressman’s primary responsibilities is to represent his/her district in Washington, D.C. In order for your congressman to be able to represent you,
however, s/he needs to know what issues concern you. This assignment asks you to research your members of Congress and write a letter to one of them about an issue
currently under consideration.

Step 1

Determine who your congressmen are for the district in which you currently live. (There will be three people: two members of the U.S. Senate and one member of the U.S.
House of Representatives). Choose one of these members to write a letter to. Hint: use the following links to find your members:

Step 2

Identify an issue currently under consideration by Congress that concerns you (again, you can use the links above to help you find this information). You can pick any
issue/legislation that Congress is currently considering in either the House or the Senate.

Step 3

Write a letter to your member regarding this issue. Be sure to indicate how you would like the member to vote on this issue or any other actions you would like him/her
to take (co-sponsoring the legislation, committee hearings, etc.). You must draft this letter yourself; you may not copy from an interest group’s letter (or other
person or group).
