“Just Mercy” By Bryan Stevenson

Write one formal essay based on the assigned book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. The essay you write must be based on Just Mercy, no exceptions. The essay responses should include an introductory paragraph with a thesis and a directional clause. In the thesis you must respond to the question prompt, which is: How does the death penalty exemplify contemporary racism in the USA?
Remember that approximately 30 other people are answering the very same question. Therefore, it is your responsibility to make your response stand out from the others –as I am sure you can imagine, I want to read creative and unique papers. Based on the question prompt, discuss the intellectual idea I am asking you to reflect upon and support your response with course material (quotes, data, statistics, research studies, author’s findings, etc.), using your own words and analysis. Make sure to cite course material using MLA citation guidelines.
The Essay question is also listed in Canvas. Essay responses must contain a minimum of 2000 words and maximum of 2400 words. You MUST include at the end of the essay the word-count in order for me to grade your assignment (the word count is automatically provided in most word processing programs). If your essay is too short, if you do not answer the question prompt, if you do not cite Stevenson’s work 10 different, if you do not discuss organizational or structural discrimination, or if you do not submit your work to Smarthinking.com you will not pass the assignment.

As you write, make your work unique! Also, please do not use “filler” or moral statements in your responses. This means you should stay away from comments which don’t add any intellectual protein to our conversation, such as “I do not like discrimination,” “I do not see color,” “I am not racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.,” and/or “everyone should be treated equally.”
Please make sure to proof-read your essay prior to submission. I will detract points for poor grammar and spelling. Please note Wikipedia is not an academic source and you may not use it for your assignments. Please see the grading matrix below for the elements which are mandatory for the assignment. If you do not include the mandatory elements you will lose points from the assignment.
