Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria

Nigerian universities, specifically the Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria is experiencing low enrollment of students (Ekpoh, & Edet, 2017). What are some of the possible systematic problems that may be limiting enrollment or contributing to the low enrollment of students into university?
Research Methodology and Design
Considering the fact that the research will be finding out specific systematic issues, it will adopt quantitative design, where the hypotheses will be tested to ascertain whether they are positive or null, (McCusker, & Gunaydin, 2015). A cross-sectional survey will be used for this study. The method involves a single-time interaction with the study participants.
Possible Types and Sources of Information or Data
Primary sources will be used, which will include interviews, questionnaires and surveys. Secondary sources will also be used, which will include evaluation of reports on higher education student enrollment, journals and other research documents about university enrollment rates in Nigeria and other countries.

Framework
The research framework for this study focus on identifying the problem, developing the topic, developing the objectives, and using the hypothesis to answer the objectives. This study will use a cross-sectional survey to collect data that will respond to the questions of the research, (McCusker, & Gunaydin, 2015). Qualitative data will be collected and will be analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Theoretical Framework
Motivation has been shown to assist with improved student’s universities. Individuals are best motivated when they believe that their behaviour will lead to certain outcomes that are attractive and that performance at a desired level is possible. High university enrollment is therefore best explained through elements of reward and support supervision and the effect these will have on university intake. This study will be based on Vroom’s Expectancy Theory. According to Vroom, individuals will choose behaviours they believe will result in the achievement of specific outcomes they value. In deciding how much effort to put into work behaviour, individual are likely to consider three things; valence, instrumentality and expectancy. All these factors are often referred to as ‘VIE’ and they are considered to influence motivation in a combined manner. Managers should therefore attempt to ensure that their prospectus student’s increased effort that is supported with rewards and support supervision will lead to motivated new student’s and therefore improvement of intake enrollment. This theory is relevant to the study because Nigeria require interventions that are intended to motivate universities achieve hhi outcome which is improved enrollment performance. It is expected that the government agencies will to exert effort in their work that will motivate universities and students a certain level of performance that is desirable by management to encourage these interventional measures.
