Modern Arabic literature and film is challenging authoritarianism
1) An important theme in modern Arabic literature and film is challenging authoritarianism. Investigate this theme in at least three of the works we studied (Books: I’jaam, In the Country of Men, Dreams of Trespass, Movie: Where Do We Go Now?). What are the sources of authoritarianism? Who are its victims? How is it resisted? What role does language/words play in this resistance? These are some questions to help you generate some ideas. But do not limit yourself to them.
2) Choose three works we read this semester, then write an essay showing how the narrative point of view (the kind of narrator we have) is an important part of the meaning of the book. In other words, why do you think the authors of these works choose this point of view in particular?
