For this assignment, students will analyze a case study and use clinical reasoning and to apply the current clinical practice guidelines to thoroughly evaluate, diagnosis, manage, and treat a patient using the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines. Using a Journal article less than five years. Assignment Criteria: Develop an application paper that addresses the following criteria: 1. Briefly describe the patient in the case study in your narrative for contextual background. 2. Describe diagnosis, management, and prevention strategies suggested in the GOLD guidelines. Explain how to implement these strategies in primary care. 3. Determine if the patient in the case study needs pulmonary function tests provide rationale for answer. 4. Explain your diagnosis for the patient in the case study. Compare and contrast the patient’s pulmonary function test to the GOLD guidelines if applicable. 5. Discuss potential differential diagnoses for the patient based on clinical presentation. 6. Develop a treatment and management plan for the patient based on the diagnosis applying the GOLD guidelines. 7. The scholarly paper should be in narrative format, 4 to 5 pages excluding the title and reference page. 8. Include an introductory paragraph, purpose statement, and a conclusion. 9. Include level 1 and 2 headings to organize the paper. 10. Write the paper in third person, not first person (meaning do not use ‘we’ or ‘I’) and in a scholarly manner. To clarify: I, we, you, me, our may not be used. In addition, describing yourself as the researcher or the author should not be used. 11. Include a minimum of three (3) professional peer-reviewed scholarly journal references to support the paper (review in Ulrich Periodical Directory) and be less than five (5) years old. 12. APA format is required (attention to spelling/grammar, a title page, a reference page, and in-text citations).
