Repeal Affordable Care Act Fact Sheet” Center for Progress. As you know, the President of the United States and the Congress have proposed legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act of 2010 or what is sometimes referred to as Obamacare. The legislation did not pass the Senate it was short just a few votes and so the ACA is still the law of the land. Since the legislation was not passed to repeal it–steps are being taken to slowly dismantle it. The Tax Reform leglislation which did pass eliminated a key component of the act– the mandate which states that all elgible un-insured persons must enroll in the ACA or face financial penalties. Now eligible un-insured persons do not face any penalties if they do not enroll in the ACA. In addition efforts continue to reduce or eliminate subsidies for persons enrolled in the ACA who cannot afford to pay the out of pocket costs i.e. deductibles, co-insurance or co-pays (cost sharing). Further changes would allow small businesses and/or employers to form associations that would offer their own health plans that would not have to meet any of the requirements that the ACA has i.e. offering certain benefits such as maternity care or bringing back the rule that persons with pre-exisitng conditions could not be insured etc. As such, I would like you to read the article to understand the ramifications if Congress continues to move forward to repeal the act .

What would the impact be if the ACA is totally repealed? What are your thoughts on slowly dismantling the ACA as they are now doing? If you were in the Senate–what actions would you take to keep the ACA or replace it with another plan that would possibly get the support of the voters and the Senate?
