Food Journal and Dietary Analysis

For this task you are required to write a report based on your own anthropometric data. In your report:

• Discuss the results of your calculations in relation to your anthropometric data, and highlight the effects of any excesses or deficiencies in your diet, based on the recommended daily intake (RDI) of nutrients.
• Recommend any changes that are required in your diet or lifestyle to maintain your health and explain the reason for the changes you would make. If your assessment recommends no changes, explain why. Write your report as if you were making these recommendations to a client.
The format of the report:
Include a title, an introduction, a discussion of your results based on your own anthropometric data, highlighting effects of excesses or deficiencies in your diet. Make recommendations for changes required in your diet or lifestyle to maintain your health and explain the reason for the changes you would make. If your assessment recommends no changes, explain why. In your conclusion summarise your findings. Include the spreadsheet with your report.

Use the spreadsheet template provided to:
1. Record a three day food diary of all the food and drink consumed including weight and volume for each serving
2. Calculate the nutrient content for each food and record under a nutrient heading in the spreadsheet using NUTTAB.
3. Complete the appropriate rows in the spreadsheet using this raw data to identify:
1. Daily average amount consumed
2. Enter RDI or AI in the appropriate row
3. Note any excess, adequate or deficient amounts in the row below.
4. Based on your anthropometric data, calculate and enter into the spreadsheet your
1. BMI
2. BMR
3. Estimated energy requirements (EER)
4. Energy yielding nutrients as a % of total energy intake
5. Average daily intakes as % of RDI/AI
5. Include a statement of conversions from quantity (g) of energy yielding nutrients to kJ in the spreadsheet to use in your calculations.

This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:

•Describe the range of nutrients and recommended nutrient intakes, where these are applicable.

•Calculate the energy values provided by the macro-nutrients and use these in quantifying the energy requirements for healthy nutrition.

• Describe the nutritional importance of water, water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins, minerals and trace minerals.

• Distinguish those special nutritional requirements during periods of physiological stress (eg during different stages of the life cycle

including pregnancy and lactation, and during periods of physical activity).

•Demonstrate the principles of dietary analysis, and recommend appropriate strategies, as required, to result in optimal nutrition.
