Globalization and Development

Since economic downturn beginning in 2008, more attention has been paid to the magnitude of social problems that can result from irresponsible, unethical, and illegal actions of enormously powerful mega corporations.

The Corporation (2004), winner of 26 awards, is a troubling documentary which argues that if the corporation is legally an individual, that individual is a psychopath. Watch the video and respond to the following questions:
Should corporations have the same legal rights as individuals?
How can we ensure that corporations are held accountable for their actions? Should individuals (directors, employees, shareholders) bear any responsibility for the actions of a corporation? If so, to what degree?
What are the benefits of the corporate form? Could an alternative model offer these benefits as well?
Do you think corporations are the root cause of the problem, or is it something else, and if so, what?
