Order Description

Choose either topic A or B (not both) and write a 3-page, double spaced essay following the prescribed format. Be sure to include correct citation for our textbook

Topic A

Write a character profile of any major character in Oedipus the King. Be sure your essay has a thesis (main point) as you describe the character’s social position,

personality and beliefs. For example, your thesis might be that good qualities of Oedipus outweighed his flaws. Then you would discuss his good traits in comparison

with his bad ones. Be sure to include at least three quotes from the play. ORTopic BDiscuss how Oedipus the King meets the standards for tragedy set out by Aristotle

in his work Poetics: “Tragedy is an imitation of an action of high importance, complete and of some amplitude; in language enhanced by distinct and varying beauties;

acted not narrated; by means of pity and fear effecting its purgation of these emotions.” Be sure to include quotes from the play to support your remarks. THE BOOK I
