Public Speaking and Self-Confidence

This week we are focusing on preparing for our final presentation Special Occasion speech in ch. 17 G’. It is important to focus on building our self-confidence. We are almost done with this semester. It is important to remember that “you’re enough, strong, determine, and beautiful.” If you can visualize yourself giving powerful presentation then it is possible! Watch this video by Dr. Ivan Joseph (13:00) about the skill of self-confidence and then answer the questions below. (hint: he even talks about preparing for the speech!)
belief to believe in yourself to accomplish any task no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty, no matter the adversity. The belief that you can accomplish it.” He gives several different ways to build self-confidence in your life.
Answer the following questions in your post:
1.) When thinking about giving a speech (wether a recorded speech, live over zoom, or even some day in front of an in-person audience), what do you specifically worry about happening? One thing or 10 things – what makes you nervous? (forgetting words….going beet red….stuttering…etc etc).
2.) Dr. Joseph says self-confidence is a “skill” because it can be trained. Through “repetition” – practicing and practicing and practicing, you WILL gain self-confidence because the thing you were worried about is not “new” anymore. What are YOU going to do to set yourself up for success for the last presentation in this class to make sure you have the TIME to practice your speeches at least 3 times? (truly, think about your own personal schedule, personality, work habits….what do you need to do to make sure you have the time, quiet, space, etc to practice). What are the barriers you have in your life (time, environment, personality) that you think may get in the way?
3.) What is something you think you are really good at? Is it something you have done A LOT?
