Historians have long debated whether J.D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, railroad mogul Jay Gould (Gould said “I can hire 1/2 of the working class to kill the other half”), were organizational and industrial geniuses or Robber Barons. What do you think? Relatively good men? Evil? A little of both, but more one way than the other? Would the United States have been better off without them? Why, or why not?
