ENEV 223 — 2014 Seminar Assignment Considering the information provided during the ENEV 223 seminars, you may have reflected on the influence of science and politics in shaping our perspective on global energy production. The controversy regarding climate change and alternative energy sources is apparent particularly when science and politics become intertwined. The fundamental unanswered question is how much of an influence do anthropogenic activities have on climate change? The IPCC has had some problems in the past with respect to presenting an accurate picture of global warming / climate change; i.e. (calculations and projections that could not be reproduced by others in the scientific community). The term “global warming” has been replaced with “climate change” since we have seen a recent period of cooling. Despite having been caught presenting misleading information, the politically driven committee continues to make bold statements that have obvious potential influence on global energy production policy. This opinion is enhanced particularly when the mainstream media acts as a filter of contradictory information, assisting in painting a picture that the general population can embrace and relate to (whether or not that picture is accurate and true). The question posed is: “Who stands to gain/benefit the most as this energy related drama plays out over the next several centuries, and was the manner in which it was achieved ethical?”
