21st Century Corporate Social Responsibility

INSTRUCTIONS
There are five parts to this paper. Parts 1 - 4 (separately) must be 875-900 words each. Answer each part fully and support your thoughts with at least three (3) scholarly sources per part—unless otherwise noted, all parts should include in-text citations and references for at least two (2) scholarly sources, in addition to the course text, and it should be formatted according to APA style.
Part 1: 21st Century Corporate Social Responsibility [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 5].

Prior to beginning your assignment, read Chapter 2 of the textbook and Corporate social responsibility in the 21st century: A view from the world's most successful firms. Using the Fortune 100 List, choose an organization that has their corporate social responsibility (CSR) statement, vision, and mission statements available on their website. Must use at least one scholarly source in addition to the course text and the article by Snider, Hill, and Martin (2003).

• Quote the statement and describe what this means in your own words
• Research a recent article on the organization that is related to their current and/or future CSR activities.
• Describe how the new plans will affect the organization, both internally and externally.
• Develop an idea for a new CSR endeavor for the organization based on the organization’s mission and vision.

Part 2: Regulatory Measures [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4].

This assignment is a PowerPoint presentation with speaker’s notes. To prepare for this assignment, access and view the following tutorial: A PowerPoint Tutorial - The Essentials. Also, view Speaker’s notes.

Please note your PowerPoint presentation- must be 15 to 20 slides in length (not including the title slide and references slide), must use at least four scholarly sources (in addition to the course text), AND formatted according to APA style.

The needs to have two separate parts:

A. First, you will examine the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations (FSGO), the Sarbanes – Oxley Act (SOX), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and the Foreign Corruptions Practices Act (FCPA). In your presentation
a. Explain the events that led to each of these regulatory measures.
b. Describe the impact these laws have had on business ethics.
c. Illustrate your understanding by including examples in your presentation to support your points.
B. For the second part of the assignment, use the Ashford University Library to choose an article that describes how one of the laws: FSGO, SOX, CFPB, or FCPA affected an organization. Be sure to choose an article that describes how the chosen law has a positive or negative effect on the organization.
a. Summarize the article
b. Describe the effects on the organization.
Part 3: Ethical Decision Making [CLOs: 1, 3, 4].

Choose a contemporary ethical dilemma at an organization that you are familiar with or find through research. Using the article, The PLUS ethical decision making model, as a guide create a model for ethical decision making based on your chosen ethical dilemma.

• Evaluate all seven steps of the ethical decision-making model.
• Analyze how each step can be applied to your chosen dilemma.
• Evaluate how the model could have mitigated the ethical dilemma at your chosen organization.

Part 4: Developing an Ethical Culture [CLOs: 2, 4, 5].

Prior to beginning your assignment, read Chapters 7 and 8 of the textbook, and Creating an ethical workplace. For this assignment, you will take on the role of a mid-level organizational manager. In your current job role, you have noticed that the organizational culture is contributing to some unethical decision making by subordinates and peers. You feel strongly that leadership must be not only made aware of the situation but also given appropriate solutions. To communicate with the CEO and shareholders, you must create a memo. In the memo, you will explain the issues, as well as offer appropriate solutions. For help in the format and writing style of a memo use Good example of a persuasive memo. In your memo include:
  1. Header: with To, From, Date and Subject
  2. Introductory paragraph
  3. One to two paragraphs outlining the issues
  4. Three to six paragraphs describing solutions
  5. A closing paragraph that summarizes the information.
    In the memo:
    • Describe the issues of the current ethical culture
    • Describe which stakeholders are affected by the issues, such as employees, shareholders, local community, society, etc.
    • Formulate a plan to change the ethical culture
    • Convince the CEO and shareholders of the importance of the changes
Memos are a business style of writing rather than academic. You do not need to use in-text citations in the memo. However, your work should be paraphrased rather than quoted. You must include a reference page to demonstrate the use of any resources.

    Part 5: Ethics, Compliance Auditing, and Emerging Issues [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

To prepare for this assignment, review Chapter 9 in the course text, as well as the article on compliance program auditing by Usnick and Usnick (2013). In addition, read Chapter 10 in the course text. Review Table 10.3: Global Risks 2014, and select one of the risk areas: economic, environmental, geopolitical, societal, or technological.
For this assignment, imagine that you have been tasked with creating a proposal for the new CEO of your organization. You have been asked to create a proposal that establishes an ethics program, as well as develop a training plan, and develop a plan to conduct compliance auditing. Your proposal must include the following:

• Describe an emerging global risk that is either economic, environmental, geopolitical, societal, or technological.
• Identify all countries that might be associated with the risk.
• Describe the effects of the risk on each country.
• Evaluate the role of ethical decision-making in business organizations as the role pertains to your global risk.
• Analyze the impact of business ethics on stakeholder relationships.
• Analyze why it is necessary to create an ethics program, conduct training, and engage in compliance auditing.
• Design a training plan for ethical considerations and social responsibility as it relates to the key risk area and the countries you have selected. The training plan must include the following: o The goals of the training program
o The objectives of the training program
o The learning methods/activities of the training program
o How the training program will be evaluated
• Describe how the training will be conducted
• Describe how compliance auditing will be conducted.
• Summarize the key findings
The Assignment:

  1. Must be 2000 to 2500 words in length (any exhibits or appendices are not included in the paper length).
  2. Must use at least three scholarly and/or credible sources in addition to the course text and the Usnick and Usnick (2013) article.
