There are a large number of OHS plans and documents required for construction projects.  For example, it is normal to have the following plans; •    a corporate OHS management plan (or system) which applies to the company as a whole •    a site specific OHS management plan/system which applies to a specific site. •    Vehicle movement plans and traffic control plans. This assignment is about the statutory requirement for a Principal Contractor to produce a Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) plan which is required for construction.  It should be noted that the WHS plan is one of the many plans required on a construction site.  The purpose of the WHS plan is for the principal contractor to communicate the essential OHS requirements to other contractors and sub-contractors on site. In your role as the Principal Contractor prepare a workplace health and safety management plan in accordance with S309 WHS Regulation 2011 (Qld), (maximum word length 2000 words). NB. Your plan must only include the content which is required by S309 regulation. Your plan must use the same headings and in the same order as found in S309 or similar legislation from another jurisdiction. Please do not include attachments or references in your plan. Base your S309 workplace health and safety management plan on a fictitious construction company with the features described below. The new building will be built on an industrial site used for repairing and servicing buses and trucks for the last 50 years.  The existing buildings on the site have been demolished but there are no soil test results available. The site is close to a main road. This company plans to build an 8 story office building with two levels of underground parking.  The foundations will be set into excavated sandstone. The building is planned to be made of a steel framework and reinforced concrete. The building is expected to provide accommodation for approximately 300 hundred office workers.  The fictitious company is the principal contractor and will engage a range of subcontractors to undertake the work. PUN500 Assessment 1: Part 2 Part 2: CODES OF PRACTICE and STANDARDS. 2(a) Prepare a list of the relevant national Codes of Practice and national standards developed by Safework Australia which you would expect to be implemented on this construction site.  There is no limit on the number of national Codes of Practice or national standards (as published by Safework Australia) which can be listed. 2(b) Prepare a list of relevant Australian Standards published by SAI Global.  For this list you need to choose what you think would be the top ten most important standards for the prevention of occupational injury and disease in relation to this construction site. Part 3: COMPARE AND CONTRAST FACTORS WHICH CONTRIBUTE TO THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF OHS IN CONSTRUCTION & AN INDUSTRY OF YOUR CHOICE – Maximum length 1000 words. This part of the assessment requires you to write an essay which is based on the published literature in academic journals. You are expected to search for evidence about the main factors which contribute to the effective management of OHS in construction and an industry of your choice. From the literature you should be able to form a view about what are the key drivers for good practice OHS in construction and an industry of your choice. You will then be expected to compare and contrast the two industries in terms of what factors are necessary to ensure the effective management of OHS. The maximum word length is 1000 words, excluding references. (Please do not use attachments or appendices). Use the following headings to structure your essay.
