A Doll's House Play

It is interesting to note the many pet names that Torvald uses when he addresses Nora. For example, in his very first lines ofthe play, Torvald asks, “Is that my little la rk twittering out there?" (1). Some may argue that such names as “little lark" are simply Torvald's terms of endearment. Others argue that they are really much more sinister. Are these simply Torvald's indulgent names for the wife that he dearly loves, or are they somehow symbolic of their relationship?     Locate THREE pet names that Torvald uses for Nora. Note where they occur in the play. Following completion ofthe template, consider how Ibsen uses symbolism (in this case, the pet names Torvald has for Nora) to show the reader something about the husband/wife relationship. In a well-written, persuasive paragraph, discuss this husband/wife relationship in the context ofTorvald's symbolic pet names for Nora. How can the pet names demonstrate the nature ofthis husband/wife relationship? What do they tell the reader about this particular relationship? In your persuasive paragraph, provide at least THREE quotations from the text to support your main idea.
