This first part of the research paper assignment is gathering the sources you will use for the final research paper. Format APA or MLA • what is the social issue you will be researching? • The book you choose from the provided booklist? • Short summary of each required reference: (this is not an academic paper format, the structure should model an annotated bib format with the reference at the top in either MLA or APA format and a 1 paragraph summary of the reference; remember a paragraph is 2-5 sentences ) • The following sources are required: • Text book Chapter that corresponds to your social issue • Book (while you may not have read the book at this point, identify what the book is about) • Four stages of Social Movements (provided by instructor) • 2 Peer Reviewed Sociological (or social sciences) Journal Articles • Popular Source (credible magazine or newspaper) • Credible Website (NOT WIKEPEDIA) This assignment is about the topic and references you will use to complete the final research papers. Please review Research paper 2 and 3. Both will be on the same topic, the assignment is outlined with questions to include in each paper. This assignment is designed to help you complete a comprehensive research paper. Research Paper Assignments Parts 3 and 4 must have in text citations and a reference or works cited page. Research Paper # 3: Due Week 10 • Discuss and define the social issue • Identify how the social issue you chose is a social problem based on the definition provided in your readings in this course. • Provide the history of the social Problem • Demographics: How does this social problem impact society? For example: who does it effect, how does it impact, what is the cost, the level of harm etc.. • Identify the micro and macro perspectives of the social issue/social problem • What other social problems are related to or caused by the social issue Research Paper # 4: Due Week 13What solutions have been applied to change/help the social issue/problem. Did or are they working? • Discuss how the social problem is perceived from a social construction perspective. Identify the objective and subjective. • Use 2 sociological theories from your readings/viewings and apply them to the social issue/problem. • What are the power structures (marginalization, discrimination, prejudice etc.) and how do they impact the identified group and contribute to the social issue/problem? • What solutions have been applied to the social problem: ie. Laws, policies, social program • Identify the 4 stages of a social movement and apply it as a solution of the social issue/social problem. • What is your opinion of the social problem and what do you think can be done to promote change?
