You will be asked to demonstrate your knowledge of this developmental period and explore how typical, average development might be affected by the chosen minority status. You must communicate your choice of topic to the instructor prior to beginning this assignment. research topic: •Adolescents involved in the justice system (disproportionately youth of color) Instructions 1.Begin your research on the topic early so that your paper reflects a graduate-level understanding of the topic and developmental challenges, and contains an original synthesis of materials. 2.Write a 8–10 page paper incorporating at least eight references that support your analysis of minority adolescents' development. These references should be chosen so that you develop a deeper level of knowledge about the chosen topic that can support and enrich your writing. 3.Describe the minority status, the scope and importance of the topic. How many people does this represent in the U.S.? Why is it an important topic to understand? 4.Choose at least five salient domains of adolescent development (cognitive, social-emotional, self-regulatory, physical, identity, moral, spiritual, etc.) and discuss how the chosen minority status may or may not have an altered developmental trajectory in the chosen domains of development. Provide references and examples to bring the challenges to life. 5.Explore how relationship development with family, peers and significant others may be impacted by the developmental challenges. 6.Examine how various aspects of the wider environment (community organizations, faith-based organizations, neighborhoods, society, policy) may help or hinder adolescent development in the various domains.
