You are the speech language therapist at a skilled nursing facility. FEES (fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing) scope may cost thousands of dollars, the skilled nursing facility you are in is asking why should they should pay that much for a FEES? You know need to prove your point and provide evidence and articles about why a FEES would be useful in this facility and how this would benefit people.
Ex: If the facility is spending a lot of money on Nectar thick liquids for patients, you can say that with a FEES we can determine who really even need to be on these thickened liquids and this might save the facility money if they don’t need to buy as much supply of thickened liquids.
It can also cost a lot of money if the patient does develop aspiration pneumonia and having a FEES in the facility can help clinicians catch that before it happens.
