This is my final essay for my philosophy class, I need to have sources so please put at least 3 cited sources. Please make sure they’re cited correctly, especially when referring to the sources in the text. The side I’m taking on this argument is that it does need to be controlled, part of the reason I believe this is bc my mom died for alcoholism.
-> I have copied and pasted what she said on the paper guidelines:
!!!!The final paper you are required to write is an argumentative paper. The purpose of an argumentative paper is to present your opinion using logical arguments. In drafting and finalizing the paper, follow these steps to make sure that your work is on a right track.
Choose a topic or a subject
I will let you pick any topic that interests you, as long as the topic stirs much thoughts and leads many people to debates and cross-examinations. Bear in mind that topic is only a direction, not a focus. To have a focus in the paper, you must formulate an issue.
Identify the issue
No paper without a clearly formulated issue can be an argumentative paper. Issue is a finely-defined question involving controversy or uncertainty. Your paper aims at presenting an argument about the issue. Formulate an issue that allows you to productively and meaningfully work on a paper. Explain the issue in an introductory paragraph along with the definitions of key terms.
Construct an argument
Main body of the paper is the exposition of your argument. Provide at least three convincing reasons and/or evidence, each of which must be examined thoroughly with at least two paragraphs. Although conclusion can be stated at the beginning or at the end, it helps you to organize the paper to put it at the beginning. Thus, statement of the conclusion can immediately follow the introduction.
(1) State the conclusion:
You state in a clear and forceful manner what you personally believe or think about the issue, which is called the thesis. It is the thesis that makes your paper an argumentative paper.
(2) Present premises:
List the premises in the order of importance and logical relevance in a paragraph that immediately follows the conclusion statement. You must have at least three premises that logically support your conclusion, which is your opinion on the issue. Then give an in-depth look at each premise with two or three paragraphs. It is for this part of the paper that you can conduct a series of research to gather information on expert opinions, theoretical backgrounds, scientific findings, etc., to support your reasoning. Remember that you are using a certain line of research to help you present your thesis, not to lay out anonymous information for no reason.
Present and address counterarguments
Respond to at least one or two competing arguments in alignment with your reasoning.
Conclusion and summary
In the final paragraph, restate the issue and briefly summarize your arguments and conclusion.
