Sample Solution
Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 or 1757 (the exact year is disputed) in Charlestown, the capital of Nevis in the British West Indies. He was born to James Hamilton and Rachel Faucette who were not married at the time. His father left Nevis before he reached two years old and his mother died when he was thirteen.
Hamilton moved to St. Croix in 1772 where, with help from a local merchant, he attended school and studied mathematics and modern languages, like French. At age sixteen he wrote a pro-American essay that became popular amongst locals which sparked interest by those looking for leaders of colonial resistance against Britain during the Revolutionary War.
