American Government Online Paper Assignment
American Government Onlin" rel="nofollow">ine Paper Assignment
I. The Paper
You must write (at least) a six page paper. The text must be (at least) six pages. This means you should get some text onto a seventh page. The followin" rel="nofollow">ing other materials are required but not
in" rel="nofollow">included in" rel="nofollow">in the 6 page min" rel="nofollow">inimum for the text:
1. Title Page. (Separate page.)
2. At least six full pages of text. (Start on a separate page.)
3. At least one table. (Start each on a separate page.) May be a timelin" rel="nofollow">ine. (No downloads.)
4. Notes. (Start on a separate page.) At least 40 notes. One note for each sentence with a fact in" rel="nofollow">in it.
5. Bibliography. (Start on a separate page.) At least 2 full pages. Must have at least 5 books, 5 articles, and 5 websites.
Follow the Format Guide carefully. A sample paper is posted. Follow that example carefully. A PDF version is available so that you can make sure page breaks are accurate. A Word file is
available as it may help you format your paper. Be very careful to:
1. Have 1” margin" rel="nofollow">ins.
2. Pagin" rel="nofollow">inate every page in" rel="nofollow">includin" rel="nofollow">ing the title page at the bottom in" rel="nofollow">in the center.
3. Double space the text, with 12 poin" rel="nofollow">int Times New Roman font.
4. Have a separate note for each sentence with a fact in" rel="nofollow">in it.
5. Format the notes correctly. Do not use the automatic note function. It is wrong.
6. Format the Bibliography correctly. Do not use an automatic Bibliography generator.
7. Write clearly. Don’t make any grammatical or spellin" rel="nofollow">ing errors.
8. Use headin" rel="nofollow">ings.
9. Don’t use bold or underlin" rel="nofollow">ine.
10. Do not put the terms: prin" rel="nofollow">int, n.d., or n.p. in" rel="nofollow">in the Bibliography. Do not put web access dates. Do not
simply copy and paste entries. Do not use an automatic bibliography generator. You are
responsible for content and format. For example, 56/3 means vol. 56, iss. 3.
11. Note: You may NOT use direct quotes. You must put everythin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">in your own words. Five words in" rel="nofollow">in a row from a source will show up in" rel="nofollow">in Turnit.com.
12. Do not use full justification. The text should be ragged on the right side, not straight like in" rel="nofollow">in a type-set book.
13. Write in" rel="nofollow">in a clear but formal manner. Avoid humor and sarcasm. No profanity.
14. Obviously in" rel="nofollow">inaccurate material will result in" rel="nofollow">in lost poin" rel="nofollow">ints. While I do not expect you to be an expert in" rel="nofollow">in the material, I expect developed critical thin" rel="nofollow">inkin" rel="nofollow">ing skills and common sense.
15. The table must be properly formatted. It must look like the format in" rel="nofollow">in the sample paper. You may not download a table. You may have to type in" rel="nofollow">in all of the in" rel="nofollow">information. Do NOT use an
automatic table generator.
Write an in" rel="nofollow">informative paper about some aspect of the topic. It can be an overview, a case study, an issue, or a series of topics. Do not tell me what you personally learned in" rel="nofollow">in the conclusion.
Write an objective, mature conclusion for the reader. A formal tone is important. Hand it on time. Remember, late papers are not accepted. DO NOT ASK TO TURN YOUR PAPER IN LATE!
II. Poin" rel="nofollow">int of the Assignment
The poin" rel="nofollow">int of the assignment is to learn to read material, to put it in" rel="nofollow">into your own words, and to cite the source. Format is key. As long as you write in" rel="nofollow">in English with a formal tone and no
grammatical mistakes, you will do alright. I am very easy on content as long as you are not referrin" rel="nofollow">ing to clearly false material. You must have common sense and critical thin" rel="nofollow">inkin" rel="nofollow">ing skills. For
in" rel="nofollow">instance, believin" rel="nofollow">ing that major political figures are part of a Satanic baby-killin" rel="nofollow">ing society will get you a zero.
Accordin" rel="nofollow">ingly, followin" rel="nofollow">ing my in" rel="nofollow">instructions and makin" rel="nofollow">ing your paper look exactly like the sample paper is key. If your margin" rel="nofollow">ins are off, your tables have boxes or lin" rel="nofollow">ines, or you use an automatic note or
bibliography packet, will you get very little credit. Sin" rel="nofollow">ince you have an example, there is no excuse for not lookin" rel="nofollow">ing exactly like the standard academic template that I provide.
III. Topics
