An independent film review

Selected films for individual assignment Lawrence of Arabia 2nd Part (1962) Rambo III (1988) The Kingdom (2007) Sex and the City 2 (2010) Argo (2013) Zero Dark Thirty (2013) American Sniper (2014) 13 Hours: The secret soldiers of Benghazi (2016) Independent review (10%): You are required to write an independent review on one selected Hollywood film of your choice, other than the ones we screened in class (See page 2 above). Similar to your short reviews, you should be able to relate your review to major themes or questions addressed in this course. Therefore, it is not enough to simply write a summary of the film or state whether you like the film or not. Some issues or general questions that could be addressed include: the "fear of Islam in Hollywood; Is Islamophobia a Hollywood tradition?; The war on terror in Hollywood movies and how it affects Muslims and American viewers; the representation of Muslim women in Hollywood movies, etc. Your independent essay should at least contain two references (2 books or academic journal articles). Please do not cite blog post or web news. You may refer to popular film review websites such as Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, or CinemaScore, but information therein should not become your primary sources for your essay project. Your essay should be between four to five pages long (double-spaced). Although not required, you are strongly encouraged to discuss with me of your topic, so that I can help you sorting out your thesis question or finding good references to support your argument. An essay is above all an argument. It needs to argue on something specific with supporting evidences You are required to write an independent review on a film (Hollywood or beyond), documentary, or a TV series of your choice that are closely related to the ones we watched in class. You must be able to relate your review to major themes or questions addressed in this course and should at least contain two references (2 books or academic journal articles). Please do not cite blog post or web news. You may use web news or data from the internet, but this materials should not become your primary sources for your essay project.
