1. Is legalization of recreational marijuana an issue of interest for health care providers? Why or why not?
2. What makes the issue of drugged driving a healthcare problem? How is drugged driving relevant to the health care system and health policy?
3.Is drugged driving a matter that needs a governmental response? Defend your position.
4. Is there a law or regulation already in place that addresses the problem? If yes, what are the objectives of the law or regulation, and have either been evaluated for effectiveness?
5. How would you characterize the public’s views on marijuana use? Describe the possible perspectives of different stakeholders on the matters of recreational marijuana use and drugged driving. Include each of the following types of stakeholders in your discussion: stakeholders who (a) rely on marijuana use for income/revenue, (b) rely on marijuana use for health benefits, and (c) are legally obligated to protect the public. Are there ethical dilemmas that could arise from the concerns of these different types of stakeholders? If yes, describe at least two potential ethical dilemmas.
6. Describe alternative policy solutions to the problem of drugged driving.
7. Using the ethical principles of non-maleficence, beneficence, autonomy, and justice, describe how a policy solution for drugged driving, in the context of legalized recreational marijuana, supports or conflicts with the ethical principles.
8. Are there interest groups that could be enlisted to support a governmental response to the problem? Identify the groups and how you would engage the groups.
9. Are there interest groups that could impede a governmental response to the problem? Identify the groups and describe how you would engage the groups or counteract the groups.
10. When you next meet with the patient, you answer her question regarding your assistance in supporting MADD in its expanded mission to address drugged driving. Briefly state your position on drugged driving, and how you will engage in the issue.
