Analysis Paper

You have a set of three articles that you must use for this paper. The first is the executive summary and
introduction to The World Bank’s “Gender Dimensions of the COVID-19 Pandemic” and the second is the
executive summary and introduction to UCLA’s “COVID-19 in Vulnerable Communities: An Examination by
Race/Ethnicity in Los Angeles and New York City.” The third is Karen Sternheimer’s “Gender, Ethnicity, and the
COVID Recession” blog post on Everyday Sociology. The first focuses rather exclusively on gender, the
second rather exclusively on race, and the third does a good job on their intersections.
The paper must, in conducting the analysis of the selected media reports, compare and contrast how they
would be seen by scholars interested in class (Marx and Weber), status (race [Weber and Winant] and gender
[Weber and Ridgeway]), and the intersections of class and status (Carbado et al.). You should take this as an
opportunity to think through their ideas and apply them to the case at hand; for example, how would a class
scholar interpret infection and death rates caused by COVID-19? Feel free to quote portions of the articles
(either media or academic) to support your argument but avoid quoting extensively to fill space
