PHIL 3301 Moral Philosophy I Dr. Westfall, Summer III 2016 First Paper Ancient Ethics Please write a philosophical essay in" rel="nofollow">in response to the followin" rel="nofollow">ing prompt: Compare/contrast what factors would be relevant to Socrates, Aristotle, and Epictetus if you were to try to answer the question, “Are you livin" rel="nofollow">ing a good life?” Requirements for the paper (please read these carefully): •The paper must be 5-6 pages long, typed, double-spaced, in" rel="nofollow">in an 11- or 12-poin" rel="nofollow">int font with reasonable margin" rel="nofollow">ins. •You must use direct quotations from the text to support your claims about what the philosophers say and/or believe. Please set quotations from the text apart from your own words by way of quotation marks, and please give a citation for each quotation in" rel="nofollow">in either the MLA or Chicago Manual of Style format (in" rel="nofollow">information about both can be found on the UHD Library website). Papers that lack quotations altogether will receive an F for the assignment; papers that only quote from one or two of the philosophers will receive a grade no higher than C. •You are forbidden from makin" rel="nofollow">ing use of sources other than the writin" rel="nofollow">ings of Plato, Aristotle, and Epictetus as they appear in" rel="nofollow">in the Marin" rel="nofollow">ino anthology. You may not quote the in" rel="nofollow">introductions to the book or to each chapter by Marin" rel="nofollow">ino himself, nor are you permitted to quote my blog posts (or your classmates’ blog comments) in" rel="nofollow">in your papers. Only quote those thin" rel="nofollow">ings written by the philosophers in" rel="nofollow">in question. Papers that quote from forbidden sources will receive a severe grade penalty, dependin" rel="nofollow">ing upon the extent and significance of the quotations. •Please avoid plagiarism in" rel="nofollow">in your papers.
