Anger: Myths and Truths examines the anger in our society today. Specifically, it delves into why people are angry and the relationship between narcissism and anger. An experiment was conducted that had participants write an essay and were given a failing grade. Following their grade, they were asked to prepare a meal for their grader and was told their grader did not like spicy food, but had the option to include hot sauce in the meal. The two females did not put in hot sauce while the two males did. Adding that hot sauce was an indication of narcissism and the inability to accept their failure. Celebrities were looked at as well and their anger was attributed to their dissatisfaction with their life and portrayal. Then, a family where anger was very prevalent in the household was examined and there was constant screaming all day. It began with the parents and trickled down to the children, but as they took a step back and realized what they were doing, they have improved communications with their children. Comedian Lewis black was lastly looked at and his ability to make a living off being angry. He claimed his household was full of anger similar to the family that was previously looked at and it shows that it affects the children in the household.
Society has become fundamentally angry because of the high levels of stress that people deal with today. When it comes to high levels of stress, people become engulfed in their bubble and fail to see themselves from an outside perspective. That is why we see these people that go to therapy talk about how they were shocked at what they saw themselves doing on video. Our society has become a world of stress and worries in order to maintain a sustainable life and as a result, we are seeing more anger in people. One thing that is interesting to me was the idea of being angry about events that people cannot control. In my observations, I have seen that very often and it is something that I think people need to consider more because they find people to get angry at rather than accepting it. If everyone were to take a step back every once in a while, I think we would see the levels of anger go down.
