Annoted bibliographies

In the previous learning block, you gained practical experience with analyzing secondary historical sources. Very rarely, however, will a historian consult only one such source for a project. Most articles and books on historical topics rely on dozens or hundreds of secondary sources in addition to the primary sources that you have been considering in other learning blocks. Historians must figure out how to compare, synthesize, and incorporate all of those sources into a coherent project. There are many ways to do this, ranging from summarizing books informally on individual note cards to a formal annotated bibliography.
Review the annotated bibliography samples from the Online Writing Center to get an idea of what an annotated bibliography looks like and how it relates sources to the research question being investigated.
