B. References
1. You must use the “number method” of citin" rel="nofollow">ing references explain" rel="nofollow">ined below.
• In this method – which is not the method you were taught in" rel="nofollow">in EXP! – the first time you want to cite a reference used, that reference is “(1)” and the next time that same reference is used again" rel="nofollow">in it is still “(1)”.
• References are simply numbered in" rel="nofollow">in their order of appearance.
• At the end of your paper a list of “References Cited” is given with the complete citation for each reference used appearin" rel="nofollow">ing only once!
• Automatic “F’s” given to anyone not readin" rel="nofollow">ing this and usin" rel="nofollow">ing footnotes.
• No footnotes (unless you have a traditional notation to make to clarify somethin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">in the paper).
• “References Cited” is not a bibliography! I do not need to see all the references you read but did not use in" rel="nofollow">in your paper.
2. You must use some scientific journals as your references. Usin" rel="nofollow">ing some websites is fin" rel="nofollow">ine, but they cannot be your only source of in" rel="nofollow">information. If you need help fin" rel="nofollow">indin" rel="nofollow">ing a journal article about your topic, please ask me for help. DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA!
C. Content & Requirements for Their Formattin" rel="nofollow">ing
1. The possible paper topics are quite diverse, contain" rel="nofollow">inin" rel="nofollow">ing subjects that may or may not have genes “for” them.
2. The genetics of these latter types of subjects should therefore in" rel="nofollow">include research in" rel="nofollow">into susceptibilities based on genotypes and other more “subtle” genetic in" rel="nofollow">influences.
3. ALL papers should contain" rel="nofollow">in or make use of recent in" rel="nofollow">information.
4. Whether or not your particular topic could even make sense as somethin" rel="nofollow">ing that could be “genetically screened for,” please make sure that you go in" rel="nofollow">into the situation in" rel="nofollow">in some depth versus statin" rel="nofollow">ing “not genetic at all and therefore it would be a waste of time – end of story. “All conditions that may be chosen for your paper have some genes known to be, or suspected to be, associated with them. You must have a discussion about a few of these genes. Any paper that does not will be severely penalized.
5. ALL papers should in" rel="nofollow">include an overview or your disease/condition. You should in" rel="nofollow">include in" rel="nofollow">information such as symptoms/features and treatment as well as stats on prevalence and in" rel="nofollow">incidence and if relevant, the different populations or sub-populations for these stats.
6. ALL stats must be accompanied in" rel="nofollow">in paper by “references” (i.e., numbers representin" rel="nofollow">ing cited sources).
7. ALL papers must have an in" rel="nofollow">introductory and concludin" rel="nofollow">ing paragraph: You are tryin" rel="nofollow">ing to supply in" rel="nofollow">information to answer the question, “Should your company in" rel="nofollow">initiate a genetic screenin" rel="nofollow">ing test for your chosen disease/condition?”
8. ALL Tables or Figures should appear in" rel="nofollow">in an Appendix at the end of your paper (and not be considered as part of the 3-5 pp Memo).

• An ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT: ALL TEXT MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!!
• This is YOUR analysis and results from your research and thin" rel="nofollow">inkin" rel="nofollow">ing. You certain" rel="nofollow">inly do not have to come up with all of your own ideas regardin" rel="nofollow">ing “the facts” and so these facts can be cited with references.
