Anti-racist feminist and trans responses to movements and theories

Choose one of these examples of feminist / queer / trans conversations from our course:
• Anti-racist feminist and trans responses to movements and theories that challenge violence against women
• Trans responses to cissexism, medicalization, and anti-trans versions of feminism
• Muslim feminist responses to Western debates about hijab
• Indigenous feminist and community responses to settler colonialism and state violence
First, briefly characterize your chosen conversation by explaining how it is represented by various participants.
Here, you should show that you can represent the views of others on their terms; and note where you find
these viewpoints to diverge or connect.
Second, examine the conversation by applying the concepts “intersectionality,” “accountability,” and “solidarity.”
Does the topic present evidence of intersectionality? Notice where participants in the conversation address, or
do not address intersectionality. In each case, how does this occur, and what effect does it have on the
conversation?
To what degree do participants practice accountability to, or solidarity with marginalized people and their selfdetermination?
What do we learn from moments when participants fail to or refuse to be accountable? How does that influence
the conversation? By contrast, what happens when participants recognize and practice accountability?
As a specific example of this theme, what do you learn by tracing how solidarity shapes a conversation? Do
participants ignore the issue of solidarity: how does this shape the conversation? Alternatively, notice moments
when participants state that they practice solidarity. In which cases do their actions still invest in privilege or
inequality; in which cases do their actions actively challenge privilege and inequality? Consider how, in each
case, how addressing - or not addressing – solidarity shapes the broader conversation.
