Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain" rel="nofollow">in (32-30) was an in" rel="nofollow">intentional avant-garde gesture of trangressive. It was part of a series of readymades that Duchamp exhibited durin" rel="nofollow">ing the 1910s. When Fountain" rel="nofollow">in was rejected from the American Society of Independent Artists, however, it was defended as an art object: “Whether Mr. Mutt with his own hands made the fountain" rel="nofollow">in or not has no importance. He CHOSE it. He took an ordin" rel="nofollow">inary article of life, placed it so that its useful significance disappeared under the new title and poin" rel="nofollow">int of view – created a new thought for that object.” *****Debate whether this action of choice is sufficient to create a work of art.
