selected works of art exemplify a specific art historical theme.
Select ONE of the following art history themes:
Art as an example of power and authority
Narrative Art
Art as sacred place
Human figure in art
Art as propaganda
Provide an explanation of the theme you select. (10 points)
Using the theme as your guide, select ONE example of an art work that you believe best illustrates your
selected theme. Choose a work from each of the fourteen chapters in your text.
Make you selections carefully. Of the 14 examples, 5 must be architectural, 5 must be sculptural, and 4 must
be paintings or prints.
Images should be referenced in your paper.
Note the artist/architect (if known), title, date, medium, size (if applicable) and location.
Include a thumbnail image of your selection.
Include a brief overview of the time period in which your selection was created. Note only important, pertinent
information.
Analyze how your selection exemplifies the theme in the context of the times in which it was created. For
example, an Egyptian work will represent power and authority differently than a Gothic work.
With each analysis, note how or if the way the theme is represented has changed from the previous period.
