For each unit you will write two 500-word comparison essays You should pick artworks to compare that have
obvious things in common (landscape vs. a landscape; portrait of a seated person vs. portrait of a seated
person) but are from different art movements. The goal is to demonstrate you've learned the characteristics of
4 different movements and can recognize them in individual artworks (like you would do on the quiz usually).
Each essay is worth 40 pts; each reply is worth 5pts. [e.g. 80pts for the Unit 1 essays + 20pts for the replies =
100 pts = 15% of your course grade]. Essays are due by Quiz day but can be submitted any time; replies are
due by the start of class the week after the quiz.
