Assessment 2: Case Study

Considering the content of module 2, you will do an analysis of food rescue organizations as a case. These community organizations are quite widespread, but not very much visible in mainstream media. In your case study, you will choose one of the following organizations, analyze them through our analytical model we studied in module 2. Hence, your analysis should respond to:

- How are economic relations are organized between the relevant actors in this specific organization? What kind of exchange relations do you see?

- What are the cultural assumptions of this specific organization? What does drive their motivation/the organization?

- How are power relations organized in this specific organization? Who gives decisions? (This may not be easy to understand from the available material, but you can check whether they have a board, trust or any other forms of managerial structure)

Choose one of the organizations below to analyze:

- Fair Food from Auckland

- Kiwiharvest from Auckland

- Just Zilch from Palmerston North

- Kaibosh from Wellington

- Kaivolution from Hamilton

In particular, please respond to these two questions in your case analysis:

1. What do food rescue organizations primarily problematize? Are their efforts enough to address food waste and food poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand context? Why/Why not?

2. How are economic, cultural and political relations organized in the organization you chose?
