You learned about association versus causation, guidelines for causal inference, causal pies, and
various types of prevention (e.g. primary, secondary, tertiary). This exercise will help you think critically about
causality, apply the causal pie model, and identify different prevention/intervention points for a particular health
outcome. These skills are essential for field epidemiology, as well as developing useful prevention and
intervention programs for public health.

In your initial post for this forum, you must:
Identify a health outcome of interest within a certain health topic.
Present three unique causal pies for the health outcome. Each pie must include at least 3 component causes.
Select one of the component causes and use all 9 of Sir Bradford Hill’s guidelines for causality to evaluate
whether or not you believe there is a causal relationship between the component cause and the health
outcome. When writing your evaluation, use language for a general or layperson audience.
