Auditory Oral Patterns

Reading Case Study A student, who has just completed the third grade, segmented 46 sounds per minute on the DIBELS Phoneme Segmentation Fluency probe, and on the DIBELS Next Nonsense Fluency Probe, she decoded 29 correct letter sounds in one minute and read 4 whole nonsense words (CVC) in one minute. The expected norms for the aforementioned indicators are to segment 40 sounds per minute by the end of kindergarten (PSF) and to decode 58 correct letter sounds and read 13 whole words by the end of first grade (NWF). On a single syllable word probe, this soon to be fourth grade girl read 8/12 CVC words correctly (67%), 8/12 CVCC words correctly (67%), 11/12 (92%) CCVC words correctly, 6/12 (50%) silent e words correctly, and 5/12 (42%) silent e words with beginning blends correctly, 8/12 words correctly that contained double vowels (67%), and 6/12 words correctly that contained R-combination vowels correctly (50%). Some examples of her miscues are listed below: On a graded isolated word recognition test, she scored at the independent level (making fewer than 3 errors out of 20 words) in grade three and at the frustration level (making 5 or more errors) at the second grade level. Some examples of errors were: On the DIBELS Next Oral Reading Fluency Probe, she read a first grade passage with 62 correct words with a retell of 23 words for a 89% accuracy score, a second grade DIBELS passage with 59 correct words and a retell of 41 words with an accuracy score of 90%, and a third grade DIBELS NEXT passage with 51 correct words with a retell of 25 words and an accuracy score of 82%. The norm for a student who has completed the third grade is to read a third grade DIBELS NEXT passage with 100 correct words and a retell of 30 words at an accuracy rate of 98%. Using the reported assessment data reported in word recognition/decoding and fluency, write two PLAAFP statements: one PLAAFP statement in word recognition and one PLAAFP statement in fluency (5 points). Based on the PLAAFP statements write one goal in one area only and two objectives related to your stated goal. (5 points) Saw: rid tube found firm spine melt Said: jump tub foned farm spin metal Saw: family which other Said: funny wish over In addition indicate the name of a program or intervention that you would use to meet the objectives that you wrote and include a reference that supports the intervention that you selected (5 points).
