You will choose your subject for this project from one of the following specific areas of privilege and oppression: you will focus on race, class, gender, age, ability, or sexuality. The purpose of your zine will be to situate yourself in this subject as a target or an agent (or both) -- see Nieto reading for context. Your zine should clearly illustrate your own personal experience from that viewpoint. Personal does not have to mean private; the written and visual details with which you choose to educate your zine readers or call them to action are up to you.
You can gather topic/tile ideas by looking up sample autoethnographies on YouTube (here’s one to get you started), exploring zine-making and zine-sharing videos through a Google or other search, or perusing the zine library in my office (CC1-253; email me for an appointment). Note that you will not be creating this project as a YouTube video or in any other web-hosted format, though; a true zine must be an unsponsored DIY project.
