Think of ways in which the United States (or your home country) is continuously creating its identity What are c American > things? When/how often do you encounter these? Think of national holidays, nationalistic imagery, sports, foreign relations, origin myths, and so on. Creating Hegemony What in your life has been purposefully structured by the government? How does this make certain behaviors unthinkable or undoable? HINT: Think about governmentally-developed and sponsored projects like schools, roads, goods, etc. In perspective of Service's typology, what makes a State different in terms of creating its identity and hegemony? Would tribes, bands, and chiefdoms include the things discussed above? Finally, some people living in the U.S. feel uncomfortable with govemment control, and choose to "live off the grid." Based on what you've discussed so far, is it possible to "live off the grid"? Why or why not?
