Being American

(Dis)identification: Identity in American culture exists on a macro and micro level—both stereotypes about what it means to be American, as well as the diverse realities that shape the identities of individuals. The former includes qualities such as American exceptionalism, individualism, and a passion for freedom. The latter includes factors such as ethnicity, culture, religion, class, race, and gender. Questions to consider for this theme include:
Who am I?
Who are we?
Who am I not?
Wow do I/we deal with imputed identities/misrecognition?

THESIS
