Birthday Speech

Plan and prepare a 2-3 minute speech that teaches your audience about you, your birthdate, and a significance between the two

• To prepare for this speech, go to the library or the Internet and find the following: an article, advertisement, photograph, editorial, etc. of an event that occurred on or around your birth date that relates to you and/or your life in some meaningful way. Do not panic if you cannot find something that occurred on the exact day, month or year of your birth. Just find something that occurred on or around your day, month and/or year of birth. You will find some links at the bottom of this page that will be helpful to you while doing your research.
• Using the information you find as a point of departure, construct a 2-3 minute speech that explains some aspect of your personality, background, beliefs, or aspirations. Do not merely summarize the content of the article, advertisement, etc. that you have chosen. Use it as a springboard to talk about you. Here are two examples:
• After conducting your research, you find that on the same month you were born (but different day and year), a famous murder case was solved. You use this item as a springboard to discuss how you want to be an FBI profiler some day and to help solve murder cases.
• After conducting your research, you find that the same year you were born (but different day and month), the Beatles released a best-selling album. You discuss that this is relevant to you, because you love music, especially rock and roll.

• Use a “grabber” to get your audience’s attention and use an effective concluding statement. In other words, construct a complete introduction and conclusion.
• Practice your presentation so that it can be delivered naturally from brief notes (delivery/ speaking outline).
