(a) Introduction (1-2 pages) – briefly present the group and the context of the conflict you
have chosen. Explain why this group/conflict is important, why did you chose it, and
provide details about the structure of your paper and the major issues you will cover.
(b) Group’s analysis (2-3 pages) – provide information about the group’s ideology,
objectives, leadership, constituency and recruitment efforts, organizational structure,
strategy, operational capabilities (including common tactics and weapon selection),
target selection, and recent campaigns it executed.
(c) Group’s effectiveness (1-2 pages) – analyze how the various characteristics of the
group (which you described in the previous section) shaped/influenced the group’s
level of success. Answer the question of whether terrorist tactics helped the group to
achieve the objectives outlined in its ideological framework.
(d) Conclusions (1-2 pages) – summarize your paper and explain what policymakers/law
enforcement can learn from your case study, as well as what are your insights regarding
the factors that determined the effectiveness of terrorism.
Paper must include footnotes, research citations, etc. Your paper should draw on
qualified resources (i.e., no Wikipedia or other questionable websites) and must include the
list of works cited in your paper.
