Choose (and of course read) a non-fiction book (most likely a memoir) that emphasizes/focuses on the life of an individual (or individuals) who lives with mental illness. Some examples include: The man who couldn't stop; The man who mistook his wife for a hat; Lowboy; The bell jar, My age of anxiety; The voice in my head; My lobotomy; Willow weep for me; Just checking; Wasted: A memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia; Prozac Nation; Loud in the house by myself; Girl in need of a tourniquet; The Buddha and the borderline, etc. There are many others! In a 1.5 — 2 page write up, please identify the disorder/diagnosis that is depicted throughout the book, and identify the symptoms that you observe throughout the text that fd the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-V diagnosis for the given disorder. Please also address the following: 1. Explain how the symptoms manifest throughout the protagonist's life 2. Identify the age of onset 3. The impact/disturbance to the individual (professionally, relationally, developmentally) 4. Treatment(s) (medication, in-patient, group therapy, family therapy, individual treatment, etc.) 5.
