Bridge BuilderRole: Your job is to build bridges between the events in the author’s life and the ideas of success discussed in class. Look for connections between the text and the concepts of grit, mindset, hard work, opportunity, motivation, Matthew effect, threshold effect, concerted cultivation, practical intelligence, biculturalism, code-switching, etc.The diction detective looked at individual quotes or passages, whereas the bridge-builder should be looking at broader events or patterns or experiences in Noah’s life that help him develop the skills to both succeed/survive in his childhood succeed now as a comedian in his adult life here in the U.S.Basically, you are making a bridge between Noah’s childhood experiences and his adult life today by analyzing the specific success factors that influenced him then and now. Look at the internal and external conflicts Noahendured and how they relate to the ideas we have discussed this semester. Process:Pre-meeting: Read the assigned part of the text, highlighting or otherwise marking the parts of the selection. As you read, think about how what you are reading connects to all the ideas we have worked on this semester. Your 2 to the 2.5-page document should consist of two sections. In the first section (perhaps1 or 2 paragraphs), make connections to how one or two success factors helped Trevor Noah beat obstacles and basically survive his childhood back when he was in Africa. Then, in the second section (perhaps 1 or 2 paragraphs), make connections on how these same skills he developed and/or had as a child probably helps him succeed now as an adult - as a comedian and political commentator.
