BUSINESS LAW

COURSE CODE BCO125-ONL01609 COURSE NAME: BUSINESS LAW Task brief & rubrics
Task – Mid-term assignment
Include all details of the task, including:
• individual or group task [Individual]
• what question students are required to answer / task they are required to perform

  1. Please summarise why, in your view, law is beneficial for businesses and work as strategic tool.
  2. Briefly outline the advantages and disadvantages of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms over the court system for businesses.
  3. Joannes decides to sell his sofa and puts a notice on the window of his flat which faces the street. It reads like this, ‘My sofa in the picture above
is for sale, in average condition, velvet fabric, bargain at €3,000. Please phone my number at 457898734 or ring the bell at Alameda 2 No. 10.
On Sunday evening Annette calls Joannes and offers to buy the sofa for €500 as the picture shows a couple of holes in the fabric. Joannes refuses to
    accept this offer.
Monday morning , Annette cannot stop thinking about the sofa and calls Joannes again. He is not at home so Annette leaves a voice message saying
that “I thought it through and decided to give you the €3,000 that you are asking and I will collect it tomorrow, at a convenient time for you”.
On Tuesday morning, Hugo sees Joannes’ notice and writes a letter of acceptance to him enclosing a cheque for €3,000 and puts the letter in the
mailbox instantly. On Tuesday afternoon Louis rings the bell at Alameda 2 No. 10 but Johannes is once again out, so he leaves a handwritten note
through the mail box which says: “I am very interested in your sofa, it is exactly what is missing in my living room, attached with a clip is a cheque with
the price you ask 3,000€” . Please explain to Anette, Hugo, and Louis if they have a valid contract to buy Joannes’ sofa, explaining why yes or why not for
    each of the situations.
We navigated trough the elements of valid contracts as well as the rule applicable to the formation of contracts. Take a look at the questions and factual
scenarios and identify all the possible questions relevant to the topics covered in our course and that apply to it. You might want to pay particular
attention to the materials posted under the Week 4 under ‘Mid-term assignment useful resources’ on Moodle, as they might be useful for this
    assignment.
My suggestion would be to provide some overview of the theorical concepts of fields of law applicable and that you think apply to the question/case
then move on to establish the link between those and the concrete problem questions.
You might choose to do it the other way around, but what is important for me is that you show that you are able to apply the concepts and examples
that we covered to a concrete scenario. Please be also mindful of plagiarism. The word limit for this exercise is 1000 to 1500 and as long as you follow
the guidelines that I shared, you are free to be creative in terms of the presentation.
    Good luck!
