This assignment asks you to reflect deeply on one of the topics or cases covered in the second half of the course.
Step 1: Pick a focus topic and set of readings from the three "focus" units in the second half of the course. For instance, any of the following could work:
The moral permissibility of torture and other forms of harm
The various purposes, benefits and dangers of love
The idea of virtue
The relative merits of deontological, utilitarian and virtue ethics (in general, or as applied to specific problems)
The ideas of love/sex in the Symposium
The moral reasoning of the Abu Ghraib soldiers
The merits/failures of the utilitarian reasoning in Summers' pollution memo/ Ford Pinto case
YOU ultimately have the ability to choose your own topic!
Step 2: Write a 300-400 word analytical reflection paper. For those of you who have never written one, here are some basic guidelines:
