Case Study

Read Chapter 9 Case Study (Pg. 405-406, 451).
Describe in your own words what the 95% confidence intervals related to the four drugs mean and their graphs
illustrate. Explain why you think that Valproate should not be recommended as a first-choice drug.
Assume that the mean IQ of 3-year olds whose mothers took one of the four drugs (refer to Tbl. 9.1 on Pg.
406) are 98, 101, 99 and 88.5 - the centers of their respective confidence intervals. Use the mean IQ
corresponding to Valproate as Null Hypothesis H0: µ = 88.5. Further assume that the confidence intervals for
each of the other three drugs are based on the sample sizes n = 100 with Standard Deviation s = 15. Perform
hypotheses testing (T-test) for each drug, and describe your conclusion for each drug based on p-values.
