The American Medical Association (AMA) Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs issued a policy statement about Treatment Decisions for Seriously Ill Newborns. They named five factors to think about when deciding what is best for the newborn. These five considerations are listed in Idziak in the paragraph under #3 on p. 89. Think about these give statements as you read the case studies on Idziak, pp. 80-81.
You will write an RTW (added a file explaining RTW format) paragraph about only one of the cases: Birmingham or Gordon. It should be clear from your topic sentence which case study you have chosen.
Choose three AMA considerations that you will apply to the case. Prioritize what you believe to be the most important considerations.
The three AMA considerations will be part of your topic sentence, your claims, and your concluding sentence.
Your evidence will be a quote from the case study.
In each rationale, you should apply the AMA consideration to your evidence. Remember, you do not need to tell the whole story of the baby. Just apply the three considerations, and use information from the story as your evidence.
