A literary analysis is just what it sounds like. You will be analyzing a work of literature-in this case, selected works by Joan Didion. You have read four of her essays, all from the 1960s, collected in the book Slouching Towards Bethlehem. A word on sources: Didion's essays will be your primary sources, although you may also quote from secondary sources, including PBS documentary The Summer of Love. which you watched and any other sources you might seek out during on of our library sessions. For example, if you want to write about The Changing California in Didion's work, statistics showing how the states population boomed in the 1960s would be in order. Secondary sources are not required, but those who use them will get extra credit for the extra effort.
